About Me

Tara Kiernan

Teacher, Consultant, Trainer

I consider myself to be enthusiastic, warm and empathetic. As a teacher, I work hard to empower and inspire the children I work with through a sense of independence, critical thinking, humour and a love for learning. I form meaningful relationships with the children and their parents, working collaboratively to ensure each child can achieve to their potential in a holistic manner.

I have been working in education for 17 years, including over a decade in London’s independent sector, most recently as Head of Lower School in a highly academic independent school. Over the last two years, I have transitioned into dedicated private, one-to-one teaching for families all over London. This specialised work has allowed me to focus on providing tailored SEN support and therapeutic play skills, alongside gentle, confidence-building preparation for milestones like the 7+, 11+, and A Levels for the children who need it. I also hold a foundation degree equivalent in Therapeutic Play Skills, which will enable me to support your child to process any insecurities or anxieties around their learning.

I focus on structure and positive encouragement, motivating students by catering to their strengths, abilities, individual learning styles and interests. I am strongly of the opinion that individualised and tailored learning works best in order for students to develop and progress; the implementation of small, achievable tasks and goals can help children become self-motivated and engaged learners. Building children's confidence and self-esteem nurtures their interests and encourages enthusiasm in their learning.

I firmly believe that all teaching and learning should be engaging, inspiring and, most of all, FUN!
